Richard Ulack Study Abroad Scholarship
A fund administered by the Department of Geography to support Geography students who wish to study abroad during a semester or summer session, while working toward their Bachelor’s degree.
Eligibility:
· Are full-time University of Kentucky undergraduate students, with a declared major or minor in Geography.
· Have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
· Have completed at least 12 hours in Geography at the University of Kentucky before the travel commences.
Scholarship:
Awards will be made up to $500, based on financial need and academic merit.
Application:
Students who wish to apply for support from the Richard Ulack Study Abroad Fund must apply to the Department of Geography Undergraduate Studies Committee. The application consists of a letter outlining a statement of purpose for traveling abroad to study, a brief description of the scholarship to be undertaken, and a brief budget specifying why the funds are needed. The letter may not exceed one page in length. Letters may be submitted for review at any time. The Undergraduate Studies Committee recommends that applications be submitted early, in order to facilitate travel arrangements by the student.
Recipients:
Students who receive support from the Richard Ulack Study abroad Fund must send one letter (email accepted), along with photographs and/or video, to document their study abroad experience. These (or excerpts from them) may be used on the Department of Geography web site.

The Harrison and Eva Lewis Bailey Geography Student Travel Endowment Fund
A fund administered by the Department of Geography to support students who wish to study in Mexico, while working toward their Bachelor’s Degree.
Eligibility:
· Are full-time University of Kentucky students.
· Preference is given to students who have declared a Geography major or minor.
· Have registered for study abroad in Mexico.
Scholarship:
Awards will be made up to $500, based on academic merit and financial need.

Bucks for Brains
This exciting program provides undergraduates at the University of Kentucky with hands-on experience in academic research, working alongside faculty. Participation in the program requires a minimum of eight weeks (actual dates will be determined by faculty placement). Students participating in this program receive a $3,500 stipend and are permitted to take one class concurrent with this experience. Those who elect to take an academic course must accept responsibility for paying all tuition and fees.
Student application deadline is April 15th each year.
The program requires a minimum of 6 hours per day for a period of 8 weeks, depending on individual faculty requirements. Generally, students should expect to work at the discretion of their faculty mentor, not to exceed 40 hours per week or 10 weeks. Students may take one summer school class concurrent with this experience, but those who elect to take academic courses must accept responsibility for paying all tuition and fees.
Student participants are selected by an application review and selection committee that considers multiple characteristics contributing to the University of Kentucky's compelling interest in diversity. Students will be notified on or before April 25th.
Eligibility Requirements
· Must be an undergraduate student at the University of Kentucky
· Must have at least a 2.5 Cumulative GPA
· Must be highly motivated, an independent thinker, responsible, and enthusiastic
Student Requirements
· Interview with faculty mentor
· Attend 2-3 seminars during the summer
· Write an abstract and a brief report describing research experience
Faculty Requirements
· Association with either the RCTF Enhanced Programs or the RCTF Endowed Match Program
· Interview student candidate(s)
· Complete Summer Research Plan with selected student(s)
