Laçin Tutalar
PhD

I am a cultural geographer with prior training in sociology. As any wise human scientists would know, studying humans is made bearable by actually studying the nonhuman, or even better, more-than-human. So my dissertation project at the University of Kentucky dwells in listening to, working on and writing about soundscapes, street musicians and politics of sound with a focus on Istanbul, Turkey. Having said that, I am an ethnographer - and am desperately drawn into details, capriciousness and richness of qualitative research. I know what a violent, volatile, time-consuming fieldwork means. I like speaking to people, as well, especially the ones that I know the least - guess Geertz makes sense when he said, 'If we wanted home truths, we should have stayed at home'. When I am not struggling with my dissertation I blog about it on Instagram (the content is in English);  you can also reach me on Twitter .
